BMW Repair: 88 735i erratic starting fault, heat sensor, fuel pressure

Question
Don,
I just purchased a 1988 735i BMW w/ 190mls It seems that occasionally when the engine is hot it does not start, wait an hour and then it starts back up??? and always starts fine if left for an hour or more the previous owner thinks its a heat sensor? could it be the thermostat?
Thanks,
Daniel

Answer
It is doubtful that the thermostat is causing the the problem and as far as a heat sensor there is none. You first should see what the fuel pressure is and see if you have spark.Without either you will have starting problems. When it happens you need to check for spark first and then the fuel pressure it should be about 3 bar
