BMW Repair: idle problem wont rave out, undocumented code, throttle valve


Question
i have a 2002 318 ci convertible it got a bit of a dig on the front passanger side when i got the car repaired it wont idle right .when you put the foot on the gas it wont accelerate it is showing up faults on the computer . it shows up undocumented code 10117 , and the eml light is on . it also shows up throttle valve 1 potentiometer and throttle valve 2 potentiometer. we changed the throttle body but made no change. thanks

John, I don't have the E46 318i engine in the U.S. so I can tell you little other than check all your connections at or around the throttle body and Idle valve. EML is usually a problem with the throttle. Try turning the key on for 30seconds and off for 30seconds on for 30sec and then off again for 30seconds. This should allow the throttle to learn it's end stops if it is a fully electric throttle. If that was the problem. Take the idle valve out and clean it with solvent and reinstall see if that makes any difference.
