the passenger heated seat does not consistently work. It will sometimes stay on for a couple minutes and go off, but mostly when you push the button it flashes on then immediately off. Drivers works fine.

Steve you may have an intermittent brake in the heater element pad. You could have the BMW dealer look for stored faults in the Body control module (not accessible to independants). They could temporarily wire the driver heater over to the passenger controls and see if the same thing happens or if it goes away ruling out that component.
