BMW Repair: fuel leak, charcoal canister, fuel leak

Question
i know u just do 1999 bmw's, but i have a 1993 318i that leaks fuel when i fill it up, it leaks on the driver side in front of the rear tire. it dosn't leak a lot but you can see where it spots the floor and you can smell it a lot. i jacked it up a took a look it seems to be at the top of the tank but i can't see it very well with out picking it higher. any help would be greatly appreceated

Answer
John, I am not certain on this but I think that this is were the charcoal canister (that fuel vapor should be stored) located. I would jack the rear up and remover that fender liner and fill a little gas with a gas can and see if you can pin point the leak. You can also take it to a shop and have them smoke test the tank for tightness.
