BMW Repair: 1998- 328I/ hesitaion start-choking, low gears, car guy

hello...my 98-328 has 131KM on it..it has been hesitating when idle but never stalls.I replaced the spark plugs and the air filter but the problem still persists. The engine light has come on but the check engine in fine. Is it save to drive? I swith it to manual and drive in low gears to to get more rpm's..I heard replace rings? I am not a car guy...Thanks for your help

Hi Dean,
It is best that you drive it to a place like Autozone where you can have your car computer scanned. Then tell me the scan results.
Your problem can be due to any of or a combination of things.
Pls. remember that scan results tell you the circuit having problems but not the actual bad part.
