BMW Repair: 1995 BMW 530i 5spd, lucas oil treatment, hydraulic lifter

Question
Hi Evan.  I know this is not a vehicle in your expertise discription, but the expert I was corresponding with regarding my issues went on vacation.  So I'm hoping that you might be able to help me.  I drive a 1995 BMW 530i 5spd. with around 110k mi.  I'm having an issue with a tapping noise from the engine when I start her up in the mornings and when I get off of work (long standing periods).  It seems to quit after about 6 - 7 mins.  The expert confirmed my thoughts that I was dealing with a lifter issue.  He suggested that I add Lucas oil treatment on my next oil change, as it should clean and lubercate the lifters.  I was wondering if I should have them flush the engine before they change the oil and add the treatment.  Do you think the flush is necessary?  Also, if the Lucas treatment doesn't solve the issue what's my next move?
Another thing Evan, my rear defrost is not working.  The button illuminates when pressed, but my rear windshield will not defrost.  I checked the fuse in the box and it's fine.  There is no visible power source at the window itself.  No cords, cables, or connections to check the source.  What gives?  Do you know where the power source is located?  How would I go about checking it when located?
Any leads you could give me would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Jaye, Usually high pitched 'ticking' is a hydraulic lifter that is bleeding down and having a hard time pumping back up. I've never used any Lucas products so I don't know what to tell you there. Try adding half a quart of Auto trans fluid before you do your oil change. Drive around with it in there and try using a lighter (5w-30) oil. I don't know what is involved with an engine flush as far as chemicals. Technically speaking you should have the faulty lifter replaced. As for the rear defrost usually the connector is behind one of the rear C-pillar covers on the sides of the rear windshield. Have you had any window tint installed or remove recently? Installers can cut the windshield grids causing this problem. When you find the connector It should be a two wire connector with heavy gauge wires. Check for Power and Ground.
