BMW Repair: steeing column and steering wheel vibration, wheel vibration, lug bolts

Question
I have a 1991 325i with 72,000 miles on it.  I recently had the back brakes done.  Now the steeling colum vibrates as does the steering wheel when I start to brake down from 60MPH.  Sometimes I hear a "thump" fromthe back undercarriage area when I brake normally at low speeds.  Appreciate y our help.

Answer
Janet,
This vibration is most likely because the person who reinstalled your wheels over-tightened the bolts.  When you over tighten lug bolts, it will often warp the rotor(s).  When your rotor is warped it will give a vibration through the whole car.  This is especially true on the front brakes.

I would take the car back to where you had the brakes done and tell them about the problem.  They should fix the problem at no charge.

 good luck,
 Josh
