BMW Repair: hazard lights and locking system, cafe mocha, hook tool

Question
the hazard light button and central locking system are not working on my bmw 3301 2001 how can i investigate or repair this problem myself both buttons malfunctioning hazard lights not working unable to lock doors using this button Iam however able to lock doors using key button.

Answer
Rene, please replace the Central lock/Hazard switch. Lean over and smell the switch. If it smells like Cafe' Mocha or Pepsi then it is probably internally shorting due to fluid being spilled into it during hard braking because of it's location in front of the cup holders. I don't mean to accuse you or yours, but this is what I see happen the most from experience. It can go bad on it's own it usually fail on one side of the switch. The switch pops straight up to replace it. Use a hook tool or something of the like. Count your blessings Rene because the same problem happens on the '97-'03(E-39) 5 series cars only the drink spills into the radio and climate controls !$!$!$!$.
