BMW Repair: BMW 325i (washer fluid function), windshield washer, bmw 325i

Question
Hi Rob-

Having a problem with the windshield washer function.  When I press the lever (as instructed) for a quick and automatic wash, the fluid is not coming out.  The wipers are working but no fluid.  Is this a fuse problem or is the hose clogged?  I don't even hear a pump or any noise to indicate that fluid is travelling up the hose. Thanks

Answer
Hello,

In the first instance, you should always check fuses, and if blown, then try to determine why the fuse went in the first place.

You will have to trace the fault by starting at the bottle.

Make sure that the pump works by detaching the hose that goes to the washers and getting a mate to press the lever. If there is no obvious motor noise and no fluid coming out you will have to remove the pump and check it.

If the pump works then the chances are that the jets are blocked by polish or road scum. You can detach the hose at the washer jet to check this. Clean the jets out with a needle taking care no to snap the needle off in the jet.
A good blast with a pressure washer on to the jets keeps them nice and clean.

Let me know if you have any luck.

Regards

Rob
