BMW Repair: BMW 525i 1994 starting problems, crankshaft position sensor, bmw vehicles

Question
Don Berlan helped me until today...

He said that i should check the spark plugs and fuel pressure.

Like i said the first thing that i checked this morning it was the spark plugs and there not working, looks like it's a electrical problem. Please let me know what to do next....

Answer
Danny, do the dash lights come on? Is battery voltage good (12.45 Volts or above, use charger) The engine does turn over at normal cranking speed? I want to see if the car recognises or acts normally with the key in second position (key two clicks forward, just shy of cranking position). You said the car has no spark when cranking. I will assume that you had good fuel pressure as Mr. Berlain recommended you check. It is up to you to check. Remove an ignition coil connector. I am not good with older motors, but your M50 engine should have no distributor and Six individual coils. You should have three pins on the connector to the coil. One power from the ignition switch in position 2, one ground, and one signal/activator line to the DME (engine computer). Check for Power (12volts) with key in position 2, Check for ground on the ground wire. If you have good power and ground start looking at crankshaft position sensor or another input signal component to DME to start ignition. If you have no power then look at replacing the electrical portion of the ignition switch. The car not acting normal in position 2 will also clue you in to this, that is why I asked. If there is no ground then check wires and grounds. Sorry I don't have more experience with the older BMW vehicles. Hope this helps
