A friend of mine has a 325ES that he got for free sometime back. the timing blt had gone on it and the engine needed some work. $300 dollars of work later, the car won't spark, and the Starter won't crank. the Internal insturments turn on, the radio gets power but the engine acts like a rock.

I was reading around and somewhere i heard someone talk about a sensor in the transmission housing that reads the flywheel nad if it's broken the computer won't allow the car to spark without knowing the flywheels current postion. However now that my friend is back and working on it, I can't find the site i read that on.

Is there anything that might cause this sorta no spark problem? i was thinking maybe the solenoid was bad. or the computer could be blown. Some of the "Custom" wiring behind the dash looks like somone went out it with a chainsaw and wirecaps and tape.

-Thanks

Free with a broken timing belt...not a great deal, chances are the valves got bent when the belt broke. If you can't turn the motor over by hand a couple of revolutions its time to tear it down again.

Answer
Being able to turn the motor over  360 degrees is good. You seem to have muliple problems. You should get a wiring diagram and check the wiring to the relays. There is a sensor in the bell housing that generates the impulses for spark. You need to get the motor spinning first.Check power at the starter and check for power when the key is turned on to the start mode.If the power is good the starter may be bad.
