BMW Repair: Blower Motor., blower motor, bodystyle

Question
Hello, I have noticed that you know some information about the convertible 325i, 1992.
I happen to have the 4 door sedan in which I would think it's similar? So I am taking a chance on this question.
The problem is that my AC stopped working.  The blower motor doesn't engage at all.  I then took it to my mechanic and he said that the resistor was simply corroded. I then told him to change it and it was fixed.  This happened on Friday, 06/02/06.
Yesterday, Sunday, the blower stopped working again!! Since the resistor is new (he showed me the old corroded one) am I left to believe that the blower motor itself is faulty?  Is it possible that new resistor fused out or burned out? Could it be anything else?  Thanks, I hope you respond.
Thanks, Dario Moreno

Answer
Dario,
Unfortunately the 1992 convertible was a different car than the hard top's that year.  Apparently BMW didn't have the new convertible ready for 1992, so they kept the older bodystyle for that year.  Kind of weird, but they still do it that way to this day.  Look at a 2006 2-door 3-series, and a 4-door, same thing going on there.

Anyhow, it seems that you might have had a blockage in the blower motor, and that burned up the first set of resistors. Then when they were replaced, the motor happened to work ok, but it got blocked again, and burned up the second set.  I would check the new resistor (not hard to get to) to make sure it's not melted or anything.

If everything looks ok, it could be your switch working intermittently, or bad wiring from the resistor to the motor.  Also it could be a bad blower motor...

Unfortunately it's one of those things that has many possibilites, and I would really have to see the ar to fix it correctly.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
