BMW Repair: car will start but wont idle., sensers, water damage

I have a 1986 325e bmw. I just washed the engine the other day, before washing it i tried to cove all electrical places with tape. I wash the engine with plenty of water then i started the car to heat up the engine and dry up the water. The car ran for 10-15 mins. then it died. now everytime i try to start it, it will turn over and act like its gonna idle, but then it dies after 3-4 secs. I cant seem to figure out what the particular cause is..... so if you could help i would really appreciate it.  thanks.

You picked a hard car to check for water damage.
Could be in just about any of the sensers.The first thing to check would be water inside the distribute cap.
If its dry,then leave the hood up and let it air for a couple days.Maybe you'll get lucky.
