I have a 1978 733i BMW and need a gas tank where can I locate one asap?.

It all depends on where you live.
Here in phoenix AZ, we have about 4-5 that carry your car
in Seattle WA, Aurora auto wrecking has one
otherwise your best bet is to checkout:
www.junkyarddog.com and search the local junkyards.  you can also send a request to every junkyard on file and they usualy get back to you in a day or two.
you could also goto:
http://www.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/
and ask the people in your forum if they know where one is or if they have one to sell.
