My 90 325 i had a bad master cylinder and my friend replaced it and then sprayed purple degreaser on th eengine and hosed it off.  It's only been 3 hrs since he hosed the engine, but it is running very sluggish and hestitating and the check engine light is on.  I am assuming that water got into somewhere and needs to dry out .
He did remove the black air box that connects to the throttle body to do the master is there something I should check on  there?
The good news is that my SRS light went out after the master install and brake bleeding.  But now my check engine is on with th edriveability problem. I really appreciate your time and help.

Do yourself a favor and NEVER SPRAY DOWN AN ENGINE WITH A HOSE.  If you want to clean it, use rags and a spraybottle of your favorite cleaner, you can't be lazy when dealing with toxic cleaner and water near your electrical system.

Underneith the intake manifold and next to the starter are 2 connectors with wires that lead to the side of the transmission I believe it's called the refrence sensor, one is for the tach and the other for the computer.  Unplug them and dry them out as best you can.
Other possibilites include the distributer, the coil (check for spark no spark check for voltage @ coil)
the next most likely thing would be the fusebox.
let me know if you figure it out, their are a few more possibilities depending on where the hose was sprayed.
It's not all that likely that it got into the airbox and if you got water in the intake you'd see a lot of "fog" coming out the exaust.

The distributor had some water in it .  Also there was a plug that was not in th eair box.  After I replaced that the check engine light went ff and it ran decent.  Is there a relearn curve for the computer after the battery is disconnected?  Thanks for all of your help.  James GEnnock

Answer
Yes.
depending on how you drive the car, the car will learn how to react.

If you drive it like grandma the response will be slow and economy will be good

if you drive it like you stole it the economy will go to hell and the pickup will be the shit!
Happy motoring!
