GMC Repair: Overheated engine wont turn over, gmc sonoma, head gasket

Question
I overheated my 1999 GMC Sonoma P/U. Its a 4 cylinder engine. As I turn the ignition to start the truck coolant spurts out of a head bolt next to a spark plug. I took to a mechanic and now he is trying to tell me I need a complete engine, because something bent that connects to the engine and crankshaft. I thought it was only going to need a new head gasket or headers. Please inform me of your opinion. Thanks!

Answer
Hi
JUST my opinion and experience, granted I also do not have the vehicle here, but USUALLY they need only a head gasket and head bolts (Bolts are torque to yeild, so they "stretch"). It MAY also need a Timing chain and tensioner. I would take it a few places and get a few different diagnosis.
Again, these are just opinions.
I Hope this helps.
Good Luck
