GMC Repair: 95 (2.2) Cavalier, Rough Start, blown head gasket, gm dealership

Question
It happens when the engine is always cold. If you go into a store and come back out it starts right away with no problems. Driveability is good when its warm.

Well, I purchased the car about 1 month ago. So knowing the previous repair is impossible to know. What I know is that the engine was replaced due to a blown head gasket with an engine from the same vechile with 88,000kms on it. It was for his wife who was living out of town and needed something to go back n forth. She eventually got a job and moved into town and didn't need the car anymore and sold it.

Question -
Hi I was wondering if you could help me out. I have a 95 Cavalier with a 2.2L auto. When you start it up intermittently the car sounds rough for about 5-10 seconds after its started. Almost like an old carburated engine. It sounds like as its trying to get to a normal idle then goes back n forth till finally the car settles down into a normal idle after 10 seconds.

I have taken it to the GM dealership but of course they said they couldn't see any problems.
I had them clean out the throttle and AIC valve.
I've also installed new Delco Plat Plugs (0.06, and the old plugs looked clean), leads, fuel and air filters, Used the delco fuel flush you dump into the tank, injentor flush, pcv valve to no help. Any other suggestions?

What was the LAST repair on the vehicle ?. ANY repair of any nature ?. In most cases problems that arise days, weeks or even months later can usually be traced back to the previous repair.

What is the past repair history of the vehicle.

Unless it acts up when in the hands of a technician a diagnosis is impossible.

Let me know on the above items.

Does this occur ONLY when the engine is COLD or does it do it even when the engine is started after sitting for 4 or 5 hours ?. How is the driveability when it is warmed up ?.

Answer
You could be looking at a faulty IAC, TPS, Air Temp sensor or just about a dozen other possibilities especially when the engine was replaced there could be an intermittent electrical connection somewhere on the engine and who knows what else.

This would require an expert to track it down.
