GMC Repair: Brakes, e mail address, neck of the woods

Question
I recently took my 1989 Chevy S-10 blazer in for front brakes to an auto shop not to far from my house. Everytime I go there i'm being pressured into doing more repairs then are needed, but I'm fairly knowledgeable about cars and can get away with doing the pricey recomendations (most of this stuff I can do myself), but this time I feel like I've been taken for a ride. What started out as a simple front brake job ended up being a $665 dollar brake job (less an Oil change). I paid $205 (103 a piece) for new rotors, $70 ($35 a piece) to have my drums cut and $87 to remove and replace the rear brake hardware ( I didn't have any new pads put on the rear). $70 to cut drums? Does this sound right or have been taken for a ride?

Answer
In my neck of the woods, New Mexico, I recently retired from the east coast, I also have Blazers an 87 and an 89.

New rotors cost about $25.00 each.
Drums cut approx $12.00 each.
Replace rear brake hardware approx $20.00 each side.

Prices vary from shop to shop and by geographical location But in my opinion you paid to much.

However, Brake work can be disasterous if you screw it up. Which is why I do NOT answer any questions on safety related items such as brakes.

If you do not feel 100% comfortable when doing brake work, No amount of money is to much when your life depends upon the brakes working each and every time you apply them.

I do not have a staff of people helping me answer your questions, I do it all by my self, Therefore, Due to being retired and a 12 year old computer on a dial-up connection, I do my best to respond to questions within 3 to 4 hours due to the volume of questions I receive on a daily basis. If you require a faster response you can e-mail me directly at the below e-mail address as I check it more frequently.:
