Alfa Romeo Repair: Heater fan, alfa spider, heater fan

Question
Stephen,
I have an '89 Alfa Spider Veloce...  The heater fan works on high, but no longer works on low.  I have pulled the switch checked it, cleaned and greased it and checked the connections, yet low still doesn't work.  I suspect that it's a relay or some sort of resistor, but I can't figure out where it might be.
Can you help?

Answer
The speed control is a resistor in the form of a coil of wire.
On my alfa it is on the left side of the firewall. It is mounted on a rectangle of ceramic.  Order the part from your favorite supplier or Int. Auto Parts and you will be able to identify it. It should be called something like "heater fan motor resistor block".

By the way, do not grease the contacts of the switch. Use WD-40 instead or clean with rubbing alcohol.
