Question
Hey Kevin i have a 1960 american with a flat six. One of my piston rods may be broken and who knows what else. Im trying to take off the oil pan and have all the oil pan bolts out and the pan is free except the front. do i have to remove the timing chain cover and vibration damper to get the pan off?

Answer

Oil Pan removal - ints
No.
I have attached a page from the repair manual on oil pan removal.
If all of the bolts are out, the problem is probably the pan is stuck to the timing cover due to its age or during a previous repair, someone got a little crazy with RTV or sealer.
You will have to rotate the engine to get the oil pan to clear the crankshaft, unless you remove the front cross member.
WHOA...
I apolgize but I over looked the two words "flat six".
The page I sent you was for the OHV 6. Look closely where the oil pan and timing cover meet. There might be bolts running through the oil pan into the timing cover. I do not know if you have to remove the timing cover on this engine to remove the oil pan. Sorry.
