American Motors: 1982 AMC Eagle Sx4, amc eagle, jumper wire

Question
I put new starter selenoid on the car and it will not start unless I turn the key switch on and cross over on the selenoid. I has an new battery too. Where do I start?


Answer
On the solenoid on the fender there is either one or 2 small electrical terminals.

If the car is a standard transmission make sure it is in neutral and the emergency brake is ON.

If it is an automatic transmission, Make SURE it is in PARK.

Locate the "S" terminal which is one of the small electrical terminals and disconnect the wire from the post and put a jumper wire from the battery POSITIVE + to the "S" terminal and see if the starter runs. If it does NOT, Replace the solenoid.
