Is there a way or device that I can get to use as an alternate speedometer for an AutoTrans 1984 AMC/Renualt alliance?  The gear/spinner in the Trans does not work and does not spin the speedo cable. I was wondering if there is something that can be attached to the wheels or an axle that can determine the traveling speed.

Thanks.

Thanks for your time.  Here is the answer:

Yes, there is an electronic speedometer on the market that has a magnetic sensor pickup the can be mounted by one of the driveshafts to the front wheels.  It works on the same principle as 1970's/1980's eras aftermarket cruise controls. Try JC Whitney as a source, (www.jcwhitney.com) they carried it at one time.  I am looking for an exact number on the part in an old JC Whitnmey catalog.  If you want to know this, don't hesitate to reply back.  Thanks.
