Audio Systems: spdif, scart cable, box hd

Question
QUESTION: i have an alba lcd32hdf and a surround sound system jvc th-p7 that will only accept audio signals via scart from tv, as no input possible, so I'm told, from my virgin v box. if i enable spdif on my tv, will it output down scart? no one seems to know answer. even if i enable it not sure if scart lead fully cabled, but if will work, will buy a fully enabled cable, ( i am a Yorkshire man !) thanks for your reply

ANSWER: It may work. Have you tried it yet?
I don't think enabling SPDIF will help, as SCART is typically only an analogue audio/video carrier, and SPDIF is a digital format. Them again, I have not had much experience with any SCART gear (not really used in the USA) except for a little bit in school.

Definitely do not buy another SCART cable! Cables don't care what format of signal passes through them. What matters is the devices on either end and if they can deal with the signal being carried. This is one of the big LIES that many salespeople will lay on you. Copper wire is copper wire. A bit of conductive metal cannot discern between a digital or analog signal, and don't let anyone try to tell you differently.

QUESTION: no otput from tv to surround sound as far as i can tell. i have a virgin v+ cable box, (hd) that has scart input and output sockets at rear, 1 saying tv, 1 saying vcr, if i connect output vcr to surround sound will have audio output so should play but need confirmation, and also will connect surround sound system to tv via component leads.  1 e 3 seperate leads, only worry i have is if 1 can cause any damage, appreciate your help

Answer
You don't need to worry about damaging anything, as the signal levels are fairly low, and these devices are engineered with misconnections in mind, so rest your mind about that.

As I stated previously, I do not think you'll get spdif via the SCART cable as those are typically completely different circuits.
