Audio Systems: truck cd installation problems, volt ohm meter, fuse block

Question
HI..
I am trying to install a new pioneer into my 1983 Mazda b2000.  I am have problems trying to figure out where to connect my Constant 12 v supply (yellow wire on stereo), my terminal controlled by ignition (red wire on stereo) and my lighting switch (orange and white wire on stereo).  I have connected my speakers, antenna, and ground connection....  but I only have one red wire left in the truck, a red one.  I assume that is the terminal controlled wire...Do I need everything else connected?  and where do I look for the other wires if needed?  Thanks!

Answer
Constant 12v goes to the battery via a fuse.  You can either make your own or find the radio power wire. I checked for a wiring schema for your vehicle, but it is too old and does no longer come up on the web pages.

If you run your own 12v you can usually find, in any car parts place or auto radio shop, a fused pigtail that can be spliced into the line from the battery.  Some radios come with a fuse port in the package; check the pioneer for it.

The remote turn on wire and display lights wire can be tied together and connected to a 12v line that comes off the ignition.  The current draw is not so big so you can probably get buy with any ignition switched wire.  Doing so will turn on the radio unit and the display at the same time. If you wanted the display of the radio to come on with the headlights you can wire it to that circuit rather than the remote turn-on wire.

If you want to check the switching function of the wires coming off the ignition fuse block, purchase a simple VOM (volt ohm meter) at Home Depot or Walmart for under $10. They are handy for checking out just about everything on a car electrical system.

If what I said above is not clear in any way, please come back for further clarifications.
