Audio Systems: 6 disk cd changer, ford cd changers, mercury mountaineer

I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer with a 6 disk cd changer in the console. It has worked fine, until one CD ended, and it went to change CDs. Then the display showed bad disk, and I noticed that the disks had not changed. I took it out and tried to clean the eye, however I could not reach the eye without dis-assembling the entire unit. Everything else about the sound system works great, including the in-dash tape player, but the cd changer keeps showing bad disk. Could you help me with this problem? I am sure that I can fix the problem if I knew what the problem was. Thank you!!

you need to replace the laser pick up sensor  they go bad on all ford cd changers with the orange eject button
error will be NO DISC or BAD DISC  and the changer checks all 6 disc before the error
