Audio Systems: 2002 ford sports trak, code radio, restoration procedures

Question
in dash 6 cd player i slide in a cd it doesnt take it so i have to push it in and then it reads cd error no cd? How do I remove the cd/ radio from the dashboard to get at the cds placed in? when I remove the cd player from the dash will it set off a theft code of any type. What can I look for why its not playing cds?

Answer
ONE: Never force a cd into the inhale slot. If it does not "take" it in when the disc is placed in the mouth opening then the unit must be repaired. If you force the disc in it will lead to gross problems - as you have learnt.

TWO:  The sport trac is same as explorer and you can find removal instructions in a few places.

Go to:  http://installdr.com/InstallDocs/FLM/PDF/356007.pdf

for a view of the radio and the tool that is needed to remove the unit from the dash.  This pdf is for older models but is representative of yours as it may be slightly different.

THREE:  I don't know if your model has the anti-theft code radio or not. I think Ford has both available for that year.  But, if you disable power and don't have the code it will cost some to get the code restoration procedures.

If it is not playing CDs it could be a mechanical problem or a dead laser diode as well as many, many other possibilities.  You may have to take it in to a nearby shop - who can usually tell you within a short examination of the unit.

Let me know if you have further thots.
