Audio Systems: CD player, delco radio, radio cassette cd

Question
93 'Vette factory radio/cassette/CD.  Radio/cassette work fine.  Before the CD player would take a disc and display 'ERROR'.  Now, it won't even take the disc.  I know there is nothing stuck in it but when you look in there I see a soft, dark colored "something"...like a pad of some kind.  Should I try removing the unit and taking it apart, or ???

Answer
You should have it either looked at by a service tech OR just replace it with a new unit.  Often times repair is just as expensive as a new replacement.  Replacing it would allow you to upgrade to something more modern.  Repairing it will not only cost you a bundle, but keep you in old technology AND the prospect of some other failure lurking around the corner due to its age.

The problem is likely either the servo drive motor has failed or the servo IC inside the unit.  These repairs are not cheap; over $100, maybe even over $200 depending on the unit you have.
