Audio Systems: Mountaineer Radio loses panel display randomly, radio shack, worse case

Question
My '99 Mountaineer's radio's panel display disappear once in a while. In a 30 minutes drive it can go out five times. Many times it will stay out for months and weeks.

The dealer wants to charge me at least $360 to repair it(I live in Marietta, GA area), it seems quite high. Is this something I can do myself? Or will it make things worse, like losing the sound, and not able to play CDs?

Answer
there is a small power supply board on the  left side of the radio it needs to be remove 5 resistors and 4 board resistors need to be replace most of the times %90 solves the problem parts can be found @ radio shack for under $10.00 and they need to be solder in to the board  in the worse case you need a new board they are $70.00 from pioneer  or you can send the radio to oemautosound.com in Florida and they will repair for $100.00 flat or exchange for a rebuild radio for $170.00

good luck
