Audio Systems: General audio questions, wireless rear speakers, flat screen tv

Question
Hi-

Thanks for volunteering your time.

I just bought a new house, and as soon as I sell my old house (please, soon - it's been on the market 8 months), I'm going to be building a home theater.  I actually have a couple questions on different topics:

First - I have a whole set of built in bookshelfs with a mantle over my fireplace which is perfect for my big flat screen tv, and the shelves are such that I can hide all the component wires.  My question is about rear speakers - I have no easy way to wire the rear speakers as the room is open on both sides.  I'm debating between getting wireless speakers, or possibly wiring through the attic.  Could you give me the pros and cons of wireless rear speakers?

And second question.  I have a ton of music on my computer in wma files.  The computer is in a different room.  I DO have a wireless network - is it possible to get the music playing on my computer to my amplifier wirelessly?  How else could I play my music?  Having to swap CDS is a pain, as I have a couple hundred CDS and the music is fairly well organized on my computer.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Answer
First, wires are not hard to run - and hide under carpets and in the walls, etc.  Messy, costly, and maybe no fun, but it is done all the time.

Wireless speakers are okey, but expensive and the number of models to choose from is not so great - which may limit your choices.  As a general rule wireless speaker systems are designed primarily for the wireless aspect and not for sound quality.  That being said, they  are not poor in sound, but probably not the best.  Your chances of getting better performance with no interferences is best with wired speakers.  (And with wireless you still have to run power to them.)

There are many wireless receivers that will pick off the sound from a wi-fi signal and feed to an amp input.

is just one of many.

Hope this helps.
