Audio Systems: jensen cd2010x, antenna cable, dead radio

Question
My wifes car has a jensen cd2010x cd player in it. It currently has two problems: 1)Everytime it is turned on it is majorly loud. It resets the volume every time. How can I reset the volume level? and 2)The radio has quit working but the cd player works fine. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer
If the Jensen unit is more than a couple of years old I would suggest you just replace it with a new model.

The volume control issue is likely a bad EPROM or corrupted content.  You could try a hard reset which might get rid of the problem.  To reset just remove power from the whole unit for about 30 minutes. You can do it by pulling the power cable off the battery (then everything in the car goes dead and if this unit has anti-theft coding make sure you have the theft code in order to power it back up).

The dead radio could be either a defective tuner circuit inside the unit or just the antenna cable coming loose or corroded.  Take a look at the antenna cabling and remove the  cable from the back of the radio and reinsert it - which will sometimes cut through a corroded connection.  Wiggle the antenna cable at both ends. If it is a power lift antenna check for fuses or loss of power if it is not rising up.

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you need more.
