Audio Systems: EQ, preamps, and amp connection, onkyo m504, acurus

Question
i have a dbx 231 eq id like to connect to an acurus ls-11 preamp and an onkyo m504 power amp. not sure how to run this sequence. would also like to keep my adcom 710 preamp in the mix because of phono connection. no phono on acurus. is it possible to keep all four units connected together?

Answer
You will not be able to run both preamps at the same time.

The Acurus and the Onkyo both use RCA jacks BUT the DBX uses either balanced XLR or 1/4" in/outs (I am not sure if the 1/4" lines on dbx are balanced or not).
So lets consider using basic, two wire 1/4" (unbalanced) setup with the Acurus/DBX and the power amp.
*This means you will basically need to get four RCA to 1/4" adaptor cables.
Two from the Acurus to the DBX inputs.
Two from the DBX to the power amp.

The Acurus quadruple outputs are nice in that they will allow easy bi-amping if you choose to go that route later on. It is very sad that they chose not to put phono-outs on such an otherwise nice piece, though.

The safest and easiest way to 'retain' use of the Adcom preamp would be to just use it alone (no EQ) and wire it directly to the power amp when you want to do LP's.
You could also pull the RCA's out of the Acurus and plug them into the Adcom outputs if you want to use the EQ for the phonograph.
