Audio Systems: DRUM SHIELD ANCHOR, paint buckets, tent pegs

Question
Sometimes I use a drum shield outside.  Do you know of a product that can be used to prevent it from blowing over by the wind?

Answer
Interesting question.

I've actually had a similar issue indoors with some bad floor resonances bunching up the carpet until the shield walked away or tipped over.

I suggest simply using/making some sandbags to add mass to the base of the shield.   Depending on what kind of shield you have you may need to modify the base a bit - we sent someone to Home Depot for some large cheapo zinc-plate 12" L-brackets and 1/4-20 bolts and nuts.

Then we just drilled some small holes in the shield, attached the L brackets to the bottom so that they formed "feet" that stuck out along the floor line of the shield, and plunked the sandbags on top of the new feet.

We made sandbags out of some nice 3-gallon "drybags" we got at a camping goods store, but if you don't care about aesthetics you could probably just buy construction bags.  Filling up paint buckets with quick-crete would probably work just as well.  If you're setting up for short gigs tent-pegs might be a viable and lighter-to-lug option that would still secure the shield to the ground.

Let me know how it works out, or if that won't work for your situation.

Bear in mind that in high winds anything like that is going to be a sail - you may need to use comment sense and bamboo sticks on the really bad days.

Best of luck!
