Audio Systems: no sound coming from speakers, worst case scenario, buick lesabre

Question
First I would like to start with a thanks, there are wires that are not being used. The car has four harnesses and only three fits into the harnesses supplied by circuit city, so I have a one thats not being used it has two wires going into it, a green and a purple with a white stripe. I assume that is the wire for the factory amp. Correct me if I'm wrong, but how do you connect that wires to the wires in the head unit? I do really appriciate your help. Maurice.

-----Question-----
I just recently purchased a 1992 Buick Lesabre Limited. I tried to install an after market Jensen radio/cd player and the harnesses that circuit city suggested I buy.I could not get any sound from the speakers, everything was hooked up correctly. Is there a factory amplifier in that car, and how do you bypass it or activate it? Could you tell where it is located and how to fix my problem.Thank you for your experteze. Maurice
-----Answer-----
well, the 92 lesabre was apparently available with a fatory amplifier,  it was also available with a 4 or 6 speaker option.  I think the 6 speaker version would definatly have the amplifier.  I wasnt able to turn up much though.  I would start by looking for an unused wire in that wiring harness, or a wire that comes into the plug that was part of the car but doesnt continue on in the harness you got (know what I mean)  see if there are unused wires.  it may be very difficult to do this beacuse of the 6 speakers,  I wouldnt recomend trying to bypass it since your new cd player is only made to run 4 speakers.  tough one unfortunatly.
Worst case scenario you can always try pulling new wires to the trunk and put an amp back there, then you just abandon all the old wiring and factory amp and you dont have to worry about finding it or messing with it.
I can help with that if you like.
sorry I'm not much help otherwise on this one.

Answer
you're very welcome. the best way we can figure out if one or both of these wires does it and how, is to hook up the orriginal factory stereo (please tell me you still have it and it works right?.....)  If you do, all that you have to do is hook up the old stereo and make sure everything works, then pull this plug that has the 2 wires on it.  if the same thing happens where the stereo looks like it's playing but the sound imediatly cuts out, then we know this harness has everyting to do with it.  then you can plug it back in and put a meter on it to see what voltages are goign across the 2 wires. then all we have to do is simulate those voltages and boom, your stereo is up and running.
If you dont have the orginal radio then I would sugest getting a meter and testing those wires to see if they are hot or ground or somewhere in between, then we can maybe try putting juice on them depending on what the meter's readings show and see what happens but this is always risky cuz the wrong juice can blow stuff out.

Let me know if you have the orriginal radio and try that, if you dont have it, get a meter and let me know what the voltages are on those 2 leads with the key in the "on" position.  if you dont know how to use the meter let me know too, I'll help ya.  you can get the meter at walmart or home depot or lowwes for about $18.
Good luck!
