Audio Systems: DODGE 1997 CD PLAYER INSTALL QUESTION, dodge 1500, stock radio

Question
I am trying to install a VR3 cd player into my 1997 Dodge 1500 cargo van.  I removed the old unit properly and then hooked up the wire harness but it wouldn't turn on. Then i pushed the cd player into the slot which bent the wires and such and it turned on momentarily. This happened several times but i cannot see what wires are doing what for this to happen. The ignition 12V and constant 12V wires weren't touching anything but eachother I noticed one of the times it was on so it can't be anything to do with those I don't think.  Then I also plugged the stock radio back in and it doesn't work now.  What should I check?

Answer
sorry it took me so long to answer.
Basically I would just start over.  disconnect all the wires and put a meter on the power wires and verify they are working properly.  if they aren't we'll have to fix them.  if they are then it's just the way were're hooking it up so we'll have to make sure they are tight and cant touch things.  I use wirenuts for a good connection, you can get these at homedepot, the orange ones work best for car audio use.
you may also have blown a fuse with wires touching eachother like that, the meter test will make that very apparent right away.
If you need more detail let me know I'll answer sooner this time!
