Audio Systems: Radio 2001 Daewoo Lanos, 2001 daewoo lanos, daewoo lanos

Question
The radio will not turn on; there is COD---- displayed. What does this mean?

Answer
Hi Dianne

That is a general error code - the radio has probably had a critical failure.  I'm sorry to say that this is something that's not likely repairable these days.

If you feel handy you can try a hard restart - pull the radio out and unplug the power cable (usually yellow) and wait a minute or two before plugging it back in.  I should warn you that this is a "hail-mary" last-ditch tactic - it only occasionally solves the problem and is not worth hiring a mechanic if you can't do it yourself.

Also, check your warranty, if you purchased a 5-year extended and it covers accesories/options or electronics you may be able to get it replaced just under the wire.

For the cost of going to the dealer and getting a new unit you  could probably find a car-stereo retailer (CicuitCity/BestBuy or some local shop) with  $150 deal for an entry level stereo, installed.  The product you'll end up with is very likely to be of higher quality anyway.

I'm really sorry to hear you're having difficulties, this is becomming more and more common and I am furious that car manufacturers think that a 5-year lifespan for a car stereo is acceptable.
