Audio Systems: Nissan Bose Radio receiver not working properly, nissan bose, bose radio

Question
Hi Cleggsan,
Thanks for the advice. I tried your suggestion. I could not find the Antenna wire under the dash. I pulled the radio out and tried to find out the antenna to unplug it & clean it but could not determine which one. Is there a way to get a picture of a circuit diagram?

Hi Cleggsan,
In my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, the Bose Radio is not receiving a good sigmal. It varies depending on where I am driving. The CD and Tape are working very well and the sound is great. When I am lucky to receive good signal (depending on where I am driving) the sound quality is good too. What do you think is the problem?

Answer -
You did not say FM or AM.  It is typical of these radios to have fairly good FM reception, but their AM reception stinks; it is a function of the design of the radio.

However, you should check the antenna connection into the back of the radio.  A corroded connector, pinched wire or poor ground on the antenna can all cause loss of sensitivity.

You may have to get upside down and crunch underneath the dash and pull the antenna wire out and reinsert it a couple of times to burnish the contact between the chassis and the connector on the end of the cable.

If you can get at the antenna and clean the connection between the antenna and the cable that would be good, also.

Hope this will help.

Answer
The antenna wire is the only one of its kind.  It is unmistakable; it is a round fat wire, coaxial, meaning the outside shield is the ground line and the center wire carries the signal.  On the end is a funny  looking plug with a pin in the center. It goes into a female socket on the back of the radio unit.

Happy Hunting,
