Question
I disconnected the positive battery cable for an hour and it still didn't work. It also didn't reset the clock or stereo. Any other suggestions?

Question -
Hi. I purchased a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan and the CD player thinks there's a CD in there.  When I push eject it just makes a noice and shows ERR on the screen. When I switch back to radio it shows there's a disk in the player. The dodge dealer said I should reset the radio BUT I am not sure how. I disconnected the battery thinking that would do it but it doesn't. Any suggestions.

Yes, disconnecting the positive terminal of the battery for 30 minutes should reset the cd player, but it will reset the car clock and any other apparatus the car has with timing circuits in them!

Also, look in your manual; some cd players have  a small hole on the front panel and the instructions tell you to insert a straightened out paper clip in the hole and push the inside button to do the reset.

Are you sure there is not a cd in the player?  Some Caravans had a built in 6 cd changer and even though it looks like a single disk player it actually holds 6 cds. So, make sure this is not the case for your vehicle.

If it does not reset and you've checked out all operations then it could be the controller or some other part of the cd player mechanism is not functioning properly.  If so, I recommend you think of replacement rather than repair.

If you want to get an expert hands-on opinion you should go to an installer/repair shop.  Normally, the car dealers have no understanding of how to fix them.

Hope this helps, but come back to me if there are still some inresolved issues.

Answer
No, I am reasonably certain the controller IC chip is defective or corrupted.  Repairs for these kinds of things are expensive because there are several possibilities within the controller circuitry and logic, therefore, it takes several steps in the troubleshooting process to zero in on the specific problem.

The repair cost is likely to be over $100.

Hope this helps.
