Audio Systems: Radio Shack Optimus Stereo Remote Not Working, target unit, infrared sensors

Question
I have a portable Optimus stereo from Radio Shack with a remote.  The model is CD3339. The remote worked for a year or so, then suddenly stopped working.  I changed batteries, etc. but to no avail.

When we moved last year, I had the remote taped to the top of one of the speakers.  When I first used it, about two months after moving, I found that the remote worked fine.

However, I carried the unit down the basement and used it while doing some work and, when I brought it back upstairs, the remote again did not work.

I've tried using the remote from every angle possible.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Dear Kevin,

Remotes work with infrared sensors on both the remote unit and the target unit. Make sure that the sensors are not blocked or dirty in any way. Remotes also take a lot of beating, tho' they're designed to take it. But every once in a while one poops out and has to be replaced. I suggest you take the remote into a Radio Shack outlet and have it tested. May be that you have to replace it.

Kindest regards,

Kevin
