Audio Systems: Pioneer XV-DV8, camp hovey korea, protection circuitry

Question
My Pioneer Stereo has just recently and abruptly stopped working.  It will not turn on and all it does is sit there with the timer light blinking. I tried leaving unplugged overnight, and tried running it with no speakers attached and still no change. I try to turn it on and it shuts right back off.  Any advice would be nice considering I'm stationed in Korea and can't really take it to my local repair man, if you know what I mean.  Thanks

Answer
Dear Jason,

Well, you've already done two of the three things I would have suggested. I would also suggest locating and replacing any user-servicable fuses. If that doesn't work, then someone needs to climb under the hood and run a bench test on the power supply and thermal protection circuits. This is where I normally suggest a qualified repair service. Generally, when you get the blinking stand-by light when powering up, you've tripped the thermal protection circuitry, which requires resetting and sometimes replacement. Only a bench test will confirm that. If someone in your unit has that kind of electronics experience, that's what they should be looking for.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
