Audio Systems: sub sound loss, farad capacitor, sony xplode

Question
i have a sony xplode 950watt 10" sub with a 750 watt xplode amp connected to a 2 farad capacitor. i am loosing sound from the amp when the overload led comes on. the cap reads about 13.8v when the car is turned on but only 12 when not running and then it works fine.  was wondering if you could help. thanks.

Answer
Im not sure if I understand the problem.
Are you saying that it works fine when the car is off and the system only has 12vdc?

IF so (and it does this with all bass enhancement off, the loudness off and no bass added), then it is likely you simply have the amp level up too high.

The problem also could be that the speaker is reaching its physical limits and shorting out, clipping the audio outputs which could trigger the overload LED.

You may have a combination of these two.

You can lower the amp level easy enough, but you would need a known working speaker to try in the place of the current 10" to see if that is the problem. My bet is that the amp is set too high.

good luck.
