Audio Systems: audio reciever doesnt put out sound but turns on, two inlets, output amplifier

Question
i have a teac audio receiver with the dolby surround sound and i have multiple speakers inserted into two different black and red inserts theres about 8 speakers hooked up to two inlets  and  the other day it stopped putting out the sound if i turn the volume dial all the way a faint sound of wut ever i got it set on comes through so i dont know if i blew a fuse or overlaoding the circiut some how? im just asking you wut u think i did an how i can maybe fix it?

Answer
Dear Ryan,

First, you have too many speakers wired into a couple of speaker outputs. No set of outputs should have more than one speaker wired to it. If your receiver has surround sound capability, then you should have more than two outputs. Yes, you've over loaded the output capability of the receiver. Difficult to say if you've blown a fuse, tripped the thermal protections circuits, or completely blown the output amplifier--or any number of circuits in between the output amplifier and the speakers.

Strip it down to two speakers, check the user-servicable fuses (replace as necessary), and see what happens.

I can help (maybe) more if I know the model number of the TEAC receiver and the makes and models of the speakers you're using.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
