Audio Systems: Will this GM CD player work in older cars, gm dealer, 12 volt

Question
I have an AM FM CD player from a 2001 Pontiac starfire. I was going to hook it up to an 86 Fiero. The wiring is differnt (no bigge) but the unit will not turn on. Read somewhere that the unit uses a computer bus (in the car) to run the radio (always on) as well as other parts of the car. Is this true?I have identified the 2 grounds, the orange hot and grey, light wire. There is no yellow wire in the OEM harrness for the new radio (ign on). The unit is: Part #10318435 ID 2001 M113251124. I know that I will need the theft code at some point but cant get the unit to fire up to that point. Again does this require an onboard computer buss to turn it on off? or is there a way to add a switch on input? Thanks, Mike
PS you may post this if you like (the questionaire would only say no)MJM

Answer
Mike,
This stereo does have some circuits that are used for the vehicle that it was originally installed in. The key chime and RDS( road data system) This stereo should work in the 86 Fiero as long as you connect the 12 volt hot at all times and the 12 volt switced wires from the 2001 stereo. I don't recall how to enter the access code so you may want to call your local GM dealer and ask how to enter the code.
