Audio Systems: Ford 6cd Changer error code, seasons greetings, disc changers

I have just bought a 1998 Ford Explorer with factory fitted 6 cd changer, cassette code F6DF-18C833-AB. The error message E5 is displayed. The cassette does not hold in if the radio is off but latches if power is on. Any thoughts?

The error code E5 is most likely a code generated if the laser does not see that a disc is ready to play. On many of these 6 disc changers I find various mechanical problems even small plastic parts that fail. You may want to have a shop that is experienced in repairing these units to take a look at this complicated stereo system.
