Audio Systems: Jeep Infinity radio, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that came with an Infinity gold package stereo radio cassette 5 band equalizer.  Approximately two years ago the cassette player quit working.  It would not accept tapes.  Then the radio started working occasionally.  It finally quit working a number of months ago.  Last week I bought an Infinity 5 band equalizer stereo cd player that came out of a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The salvage yard I bought it from said it worked and they guarantee it for 90 days. It appears to be functioning, that is all lights come on and radio station  numbers appear and the cd player accepts cds but there is no sound.  Any thoughts?

The CD stereo may have an audio output amp problem or it could be a premium model that requires an external amp to have sound? If the salvage yard said that they would guarantee it for 90 days, perhaps you should exchange it. If you give me the complete model numbers of both stereos I can look over the service manual to see what each stereo requires.
