Hello,

Can you tell me where I can obtain the service
repair manual for the Clarion Model RT-9178F
AM/FM stereo receiver.  I need the tech manual
with the radio schematics.

Tom

Thanks for the reply and offer to help.

I checked with Clarion for the manual and any other
repair parts.  Clarion referred me to Pac.West parts.

I search there, showed the manual to be out of stock.
Being that the receiver is circa 199,1 that did not
surprise me.

Here's the problem I have with the radio......
Everything seems to function except the volume is very
low.  I suspect the the problem might be with a bad
audio output amp IC.  I've replaced several amp IC's in the past on different pieces of equipment.  Although, in those cases there was no output at all.  Some IC's had even showed damage from blowing.  Most likely due to a short on the speaker lines.

Having the schematic might help me to isolate the problem to the amp.  That is if you think the IC could in fact be the only cause of low volume.  Any other idea? I did meter 12VDC going all the way to the amp so it's not that it isn't getting any voltage.  Also the IC does get rather hot after being powered on for awhile.

I did try and find a cross reference for the IC at ECG and NTE.  Nothing listed.  The IC is........ MC13304T3S.   Pacific West Parts shows that the Motorola part is no longer available but they claim to have a replacement number.....  051111151

Problem is..... they want $15 for the part and another $10 to ship.  I hate the thought of spending $25.00 just on a hunch that it is this one part being bad.  I was hoping to find a  replacement IC elsewhere because I know most of the time  these IC are under $10.

Any ideas on what else I can do to pin down the receiver's problem and where I might find a suitable replacement for the Motorola IC  ?

Thanks Again

Ron,
I will check my archives, I have quite a few manuals for Clarion stereos. I will let you know if I have what you need, if I don't I will also tell you who may have what you need.

Answer
Ron,
I have looked all over the web and contacted all my other sources for a service manual with no luck. I did find one location the had a manual, however they said that it was only a poor photo copy that was hard to read and I said no thanks. When I have a stereo come in to my shop with a audio problem and I don't have service info for it I look up the data for the output IC's and I can see what each pin on the IC is used for. With your problem of low audio the mute line my be activated. If you find the data for the output IC in your stereo take a look at the mute line to the IC. I do have a Motorola IC data book from about 10 years ago, I will see if the IC MC13304 is listed and send you the pinouts.
