Audio Systems: no sound in factory speakers, kenwood cd player, factory speakers

Question
Hi
We installed a new Kenwood cd player yesterday in my 92 suburban.  It worked great with the front factory speakers.  Today we hooked up the amp, and the minute it was hooked up the front factory speakers quit putting out any sound, but we're getting base out of the 12's. The radio itself still seems to be working fine. Do you have any idea of where to start to look to fix it?  Thanks

Answer
Carol,

i would like some more info on what type of system you are setting up say you have the factory speakers on a seperate amp or just powered by the head unit ect.. but go to your fuse block check all the fuses pull one out at a time and check everyone one for blows then replace .. also pull your head unit back out and check your wire harness adapter * if you didnt use a wire harness adapter that wires into the new kenwood's harness then plugs into a factory plug* if you cut the factory plug off if you can wire it back and go buy a wire harness adapter * about 8-10 dollars at radioshack or wal-mart* .. check the wires make sure they are all insulated with black tape/wire nuts and no bare wires are showing also double check all your wiring.. now it is possible that you blew the front factory speakers there isnt an easy test method besides if you have a good speaker you know works ( even a home sound system speaker will work for a test ) wire it in at your head units harness for the speaker/s and if you get sound replace the front speakers * i think this is where you will find the problem in the factory speakers* .. if you need any wire help you can check out my resource page at

if you need anything else just let me know
