Audio Systems: car audio wires, toyota tocoma, sony cdx

Question
I have a 98 toyota tocoma and i recently took out the stock radio/tape player. I tryed puting a sony cdx-m630 in. i got power to it and it was working fine. but when ever i turned off the car it reset my clock aswell as my other settings. do you have any suggestions for me? I think its cause of the memory wire. seince i didnt have any other power comeing from the other wires i put the stereo memory wire to the regular power wire.
if that is the problem how do i make another memory wire for my stereo?

Answer
Grant,
There is no 'memory wire', per say. What you're describing is an actually a loss of power to the head unit. This happens when the head unit is turned off, but not receiving any power at all. A head unit usually draws just a very small amount of power from the battery to maintain its' settings. But the problem you're describing most often occurs when a battery is dieing, a head unit is new, the battery has been replaced, or the power wire to the deck is loose. I would recommend checking out all these various components and make sure they are all in good condition. I hope this helps.

Best Of Luck,
Alan
