Audi Repair: 98 a4 audi trans only going in reverse when cold?, transmission control unit, autozone

Question
odd thing happened the day after I had my left motor mount replaced on my
98 audi a4 1.8t rwd with 137000 miles on it. I don't know if it's related but it
was the next day that my back passanter floor had a lot of what I though was
water leaking from the inside of the opening where my non-powered seats
slide on the track. Every time I made a hard left water or fluid would start
gushing out. I left my car sitting for a couple weeks and may havelwfy my
window cracked. I wanted to add this info beachse I found myself making
several of these hard lefts to get all the water too spill on my back floor from
the doorwell I think u call it. Anyway I go to the gym to work out and I put the
car in reverse and it did not move. I didn't feel the little jerk when I shifted it
either. The last 4 days my cAr will only shift in reverse when I leave in the
morning for work. On Tuesday I was at mcdonald and was able to shift in in
reverse and get it in reverSe 3 times in 5 minutes after I was running around
doing  errands. Then it stopped agin. Shifted the gear felt nothing, did
nothing. And I noticed u cAn't  check the fluid easily on this car. I'm very
scared and confused. It seems  like it only goes in reverse cold or mabye
when it wants too. My fluid was replaced about a year ago. Please help me
with your insight sir.

Answer
It sounds like the transmission control unit (TCM) is malfunctioning.  This should be checked by a transmission specialist or Audi dealer; and the repair can be expensive.  Check for computer codes; these can be checked by Autozone for you.  Let me know what you find,  Jan
