Audi Repair: electrical problems,1985 Audi 4000S, audi 4000s, windshield wipers

Question
QUESTION: Unable to operate my power sunroof, power windows,A/C unit, fan motor and windshield wipers. Any idea if this a relay problem, which one and where it is located? Have checked all fuses (OK). If not the relay, any other ideas?

ANSWER: Normally this is indicative of a faulty ignition switch, or a broken wire from the ignition switch.  One of the major electrical circuits is not being activated...  let me know what you find,  Jan

QUESTION: Hi Jan: Rated you a 10+ and wanted to let you know what went on in case someone else contacts you with the same problem. I bought an ignition switch and without removing the steering wheel etc. tried it out. Unfortuately, that did not correct the problems. I looked at the wiring diagram again and decided to go back to the fuse box. I opened up the load reduction relay to see how it would work.Ah ha, the contact points did not close completely, but by pressing them shut the power windows etc. all worked again. New relay and the problem was solved. Thanks again, hope this helps you too. Great job.

Answer
Thank you very much for the follow up; so the major electrical components that are switched off during starting by the load reduction relay, were not re-enabled by a fault in the relay itself.  Makes sense, thanks for the feedback and this will undoubtedly help some other folks.  Appreciate it,  Jan
