Audi Repair: Volkswagon Jetta 2.0L, bosch platinum, jetta 2

Question
I recently changed the timing belt and spark plugs on my 94 Jetta III GL.  I took out the NGK plugs and put in some Bosch Platinum.  After installation an re-assembly I got in, turned the key and it fired right up, idling smoother than it has in months.  I revved it a few times and it sounded fine but the check engine light came on and when I took it for a test drive after it got warm it started to hesitate when I took off from a dead stop.   In fact, it died a few times when I tried to punch it from a dead stop.  I also lost some power.  When climbing slight hills on the freeway I can't keep it over 65 like I used to be able to.

I am 100% positive that the new timing belt went on exactly as the old came off, I marked the old belt and sprockets, counted lugs on both the old and new and even laid the new on the old to make sure I had the marks in the same spots.  I put the new belt on on the same sprocket marks as the old.  I was told if it was off a toothe that it would run but not run good.  Because of the fact that it idles so smoothly and drives on the freeway I assume that it is not the belt.

Could there be something to the new Platinum plugs that I put in?  Maybe the gap too small and it's not burning the fuel efficiently?  They said they were pre-gapped.  I have already changed all of the old braided vacuum hose.  Some of the guys at work said that if there is hesitation or stalling when taking off it could be the fuel filter or pump.  It is just strange that it would happen right after I did this work.

Can you adjust the timing externally through the disributor?  I thought about screwing with that just to see what happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Answer
hello
sorry , I do not have any idea on this , but try to clean throttle plate. spark plugs should be OK, I did not see any problems with any plugs, but if you have the old ones try to put then back just to see,
good luck                           pltech
